Although it isn’t a new SUV, it is perfectly suited to Indian needs, and it differs from the X-Trail. We’re talking about the Nissan Terrano‘s historic return in its new 2025 iteration.

About the Nissan Terrano

In October 2013, the Nissan Terrano made its debut in the Indian market as the more upscale and fashionable brother of the well-liked Renault Duster. Its slightly altered front fascia, modified tail lamps, and minor interior modifications gave it a more “Nissan” look.

Before its launch, the Terrano attracted a lot of attention and quickly secured over 6,000 reservations. With almost 15,000 sold, it accounted for up to 39% of Nissan India’s total sales volume for the fiscal year 2013–2014, making it the company’s best-selling product by March 2014.

But in the years that followed, its sales trend started to deteriorate. Nissan gradually resumed doing “the typical Nissan stuff,” as it had in the past. These included a higher price point than the Renault Duster despite sharing a base, a lack of timely upgrades as competitors significantly improved their features, and a growing rivalry in the small SUV market.

Its market share was steadily reduced by these circumstances. The Terrano was eventually phased out in early 2020 and discreetly taken off from Nissan’s official website. Additionally, the Terrano was operating on both gasoline and diesel mills that had not been modified to meet the BS6 emission standards at the time of the termination.

Nissan will follow suit with the 2025 Terrano, building it on the same chassis as the 2025 Duster. The Duster’s adaptability and CMF-B chassis, which can accommodate numerous powertrains, have already shown it to be a terrific bargain.

Exterior

The bodywork of the most recent Nissan Terrano vehicle is identical to that of the previous model. In terms of appearance, the Terrano maintains a straighter shape while the Duster is curvaceous and stylish. The top-of-the-line XV model has gorgeous petal-shaped alloy wheels and flared wheel arches on the side, while the huge chrome-laced grille dominates the face. Similar to the Duster, the Terrano sports a big, eye-catching back end, but the tail lamps are formed like teardrops. Lastly, the sleek SUV appearance is enhanced by the silver roof rails and bash plates.

Interior

As part of a mid-life update for the SUV, Nissan has made minor improvements to the Terrano’s interior in this AMT configuration. The majority of the interior is painted beige, while the dashboard is a dual-tone blend of beige and black.

The dashboard’s design and components, including the tripod instrument cluster, chrome-laced air conditioning vents, and button and stalk placement, were directly taken from the facelifted Duster. Features include a standard air conditioner, a 2-DIN music system, and electrically adjustable mirrors. Even though this is a top-tier XV model, it is devoid of touchscreen music controls, temperature control, and steering-mounted audio controls. In this segment of the market, they are now considered standard features.

When compared to its main competitor, the Hyundai Creta, the Terrano’s plastic quality feels inferior. The back has two cup holders in the armrest and one between the front seats, while the six storage areas in front include two cup holders. The already enormous 475-liter boot may be enlarged by folding the rear seat back flat.

The cabin’s spaciousness and NVH insulation are two areas where Nissan has had some success. The large rear seat and lack of air-con blower vents provide enough room in the interior for five people to sit comfortably. On the other hand, the NVH insulation is rather strong and can even block out the gravelly sound of the K9K diesel engine while driving at moderate speeds. Wind and tire noise do become noticeable at triple-digit speeds, though.

2025 Nissan Terrano Expected Price and Launch

By late 2025, most likely following the Renault Duster’s relaunch, the 2025 Nissan Terrano is anticipated to make its Indian premiere. It may take Nissan a few more months to make badge engineering and local adjustments.

Expect the Terrano to somewhat undercut the Creta and Seltos in terms of price. Depending on the model and engine, the projected price range is ₹11 lakh to ₹17.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The range might go a little farther if Nissan later introduces a CNG version as well. This will also help attract positive attention at first.

The 2025 Terrano might be a true comeback story for the Japanese brand in India that failed in its previous attempt if Nissan can properly promote it, offer a respectable variation range, and, most crucially, maintain aggressive pricing. It all depends on how Nissan manages the introduction.

Nissan Terrano Mileage

The engine and gearbox type have an impact on the Nissan Terrano’s mileage. 13.2 km/l is the fuel economy of the manual-transmission gasoline version. The manual and automatic (AMT) diesel models have a fuel economy of 19.61 to 20.5 km/l.

Conclusion

With its elegant features, useful performance, and road-specific design, the 2025 Nissan Terrano represents a daring return. The Terrano is prepared to take back its position in the market for small SUVs thanks to its competitive mileage, roomy cabin, and anticipated aggressive pricing. The Terrano has the potential to revolutionize the market once more if Nissan executes the launch plan correctly.
